Film Is Not Dead (FIND) guide is here
| Feb 16, 2011film is not dead!
the last two days, i have been sitting at the computer, devouring jonathan canlas‘s new online book
‘film is not dead- the digital photographer’s guide to shooting film’
jonathan was so inspired when he put this book together. i truly believe that as technology has gotten more advanced and new and better cameras are coming out each year – that some photographers never learn the basic elements of photography. jonathan canlas is out to bring basic photography knowledge back and i support him 100%.
i normally do not write a lot on my blog. to be honest i dont believe i am a good writer. i am a storyteller thru photos and i leave the writing to the writers. however, today i have to get all of you that follow my blog, who love or appreciate my work, to download this book. i will probably be talking about this book for months, but today here is my first review:
i shoot film because i love the look, i love the feeling of being completely committed to each shot that i take, i love how it makes me truly compose and think about every element before i click that shutter, and i love that it has made me the photographer i am today. i am not saying SHOOT FILM (well, i am but you dont have to), but i am saying try it out. it will completely change how you shoot with digital or film. you will become a better photographer.
i say this to photographers EVERYDAY, however, so many of you are scared to start. it is overwhelming. i remember the first time i got photoshop and in my mind i thought, “how will i ever learn how to use this program.” it was so overwhelming to me. just like you overcame that hurdle, you can learn to shoot film and THIS GUIDE has all the first steps to doing it.
jonathan goes over camera types, film types, exposer, light meters, black and whites, instant photography, lab and developing, how to buy film and guess what? he is completely honest and upfront about everything! last year i attended his workshop and i have to say the number one thing i loved about jonathan canlas was his 100% honesty. he is an open book and i appreciated that more than anything else. his book is no different. there are no fluffs or gimics, he is out to inform the world that you can shoot film! i would like to pass that word along in any form that i can. so, i have decided to support jonathan in his quest. i would do it for free. i would hike, with my baby on my back, to the tallest mountain to shout it for all to hear. however, jonathan, as amazing as he is has started an affiliate program and i have joined … solely because i believe in what he is doing.
you can get the book for $89 until february 23rd. after that the book is $149. so take advantage of the indroductory price and buy the book by clicking on the “learn to shoot film” link below. i would be happy to answer any questions you have for me about the book and i will be talking about this guide in more detail over the next few weeks.

Thanks so much for your review! I’m so excited to buy this, because I’ve been wanting to start shooting film ever since finding out you switched to film & then it made me want to!
I totally agree about so many people becoming photographers just because they bought a digital camera! It stinks because around here people care more about money than quality so the photographers that think they’re photographers get more business since they’re way cheaper.
Is it an e-book or is it a physical book? I’d love the latter more than the former, so I am curious.
I’m also curious if the book is available for print in physical form as well.
I went to wppi with the idea that I needed to be convinced to get back into film. I think I had 2 or 3 classes with film as part or all of the topic. Needless to say, all I needed wan Jon’s class… gave me the opportunity to skip one of the others and get some needed sleep time. He is so awesome…. in general, not just as a photographer. And how great of you to recommend his book!
