when i am talking with a bride and groom i try to get to know them the best i can.  i want to know who they are and what they love, so that i can better capture them!  i want to know about their families, so that it helps me tell their story.   but sometimes there is an art and a talent of being able to capture emotion and a person when you dont know them at all.  this is why i adore street photography.   i love to look at how photographers view strangers, a street, city, or town and capture it in a way that the rest of the world can see their point of view.  it is art and i love it.   looking at old street photography from the 60s and 70s is a big source of inspiration to me.    

i have a bit of my own street photography.  this first post is all from this last fall in San Francisco.   my favorite street photography camera is my medium format hasselblad 500 c/m.   i love what it produces and i love walking around a street, taking my time, getting my exposer right on and really composing each shot.  it is so peaceful for me.  being able to step away from the busy weddings and having some days in my schedule to get out the old manual camera and slow down and photograph strangers - is like having a massage.  it unwinds me and makes me look at the simple pure moments in people.

Jill I love these. May I ask how you approach street photography? Are you one of those people that carry around model releases and starts approaching people or are you the type that just shoots. I would really like to get into street photography but am having trouble working up my nerve.

Please please tell me you went somewhere else in the city besides the dreaded gawdy tourist trap at fisherman's wharf and ghirardelli square... The city has so much more to offer to see than that place.... And sadly so many do not venture to go and see..
